Beyond the forests, across the meandering river

Healstation journeys into the places the world has forgotten—the isolated tribal villages of West Champaran on the Indo-Nepal border of Bihar. In these remote pockets, hidden by dense forest reserves and cut off by shifting waterways, life moves at its own unhurried pace. We step into this quiet expanse to bridge the gap, bringing critical healthcare, mental well-being, and hope to the grassroots.

The Terrain

A land both beautiful and heart-breaking.

Our work begins at the edge of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve and stretches across the tribal belt of West Champaran. To reach our villages we cross sal forests, mustard fields, and rivers that change course with the season.

In these villages, healthcare arrives under a banyan tree. Classrooms have no walls. And a single conversation — held with care — can begin to unwind decades of stigma.

The Regions

Three landscapes, one promise.

Terai & Forest Foothills

The heart of our work lies deep within the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, where indigenous tribal communities live completely hidden from mainstream view. In this rugged Terai landscape where modern infrastructure ends, we build deep community trust bringing our "Under the Tree" classrooms to life and introducing vital care where electricity and mobile signals do not reach.

Indo-Nepal Border Belt

Frontier villages resting on the absolute edge of the international boundary, where geographic isolation leaves families incredibly vulnerable. Driven by our local team of passionate tribal changemakers, we cross these borders to provide critical mental health screenings and essential menstrual hygiene education to women who have been left behind.

Riverside & Flood Plains

Every monsoon, the meandering rivers swell, cutting off entire forest communities and destroying mud homes. We stand firmly with these families through devastating seasonal floods, fires, and disease outbreaks—delivering immediate emergency relief while fostering sustainable livelihood programs so women can rebuild.

1 promise

For 7 years, we have walked the remote borders of West Champaran. While others pass through, our singular promise to these 41 villages is that we will not look away, and we will not leave. We are here for the long haul, and we are building a legacy of health, dignity, and hope that lasts for generations.

After losing her father, anxiety and financial despair left Sarita* isolated at home, Leaving her future prospects bleak. Joining Healstation’s skill development program gave her more than just a trade—it gave her a community of sisterhood. Now a certified changemaker, she stitches sustainable clothing and earns a decent livelihood.

Ankita, Laxmi and Pooja spent their early mornings helping their family gather firewood in the forest, never knowing what a classroom looked like. When our 'Under the Tree' classes came to their village, their lives changed. They held the books and notebooks for the first time. Today, they are no longer left behind and are thriving at the top of their classes.

Preeti used unhygienic rags and stayed isolated in a dark shed every month, risking chronic infection due to deep-rooted village taboos. After attending a dedicated menstrual hygiene workshop, she threw out the old rags for good. She now safely manages her health and actively educates her peers to break the cycle of isolation.

"We don't just visit these villages — we sit on their floors, drink their tea, and listen until the silence becomes a story we can heal together."

— Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Founder

Stand with the villages we serve.

Every contribution travels with us — past the forests, across the rivers — into the hands of a family that has been waiting to be seen.
